Today we live in a world ruled by social media and other sources connected to the internet. We watch TV-series and movies for entertainment and we share our ideas, words, and thoughts to the rest of the world just by touching the screen of our smartphones. We are more connected to the rest of the world than we ever have been before, however, is this availability positive or negative for the society we live in? Stay put and we’ll find out some of the positive and negative aspects of social media.
I think we all can agree that the internet has made our lives a little easier. A little better. Thanks to the internet we can connect with anyone regardless of the location and religion. The beauty of social media is that we can connect to learn and share our thoughts.
Social media has a lot of benefits for students and teachers – including education, awareness, and information. It has never been easier to find information about any subject which enhances knowledge of any field, regardless of which educational background.
When it comes to awareness, social media gives us information about what is going on in this world. If it had not been for the social media and the internet we would not have any knowledge about all the stuff going on in this world – including starvation, illnesses, wars and less heartbreaking news like human rights. Social media can also be used to ask for help either if you are struggling with an issue and need some advice or guidance, or if you need money for a good cause – the community you connect with could perhaps help you.
The social media also have some disadvantages such as hacking, cyberbullying and addiction followed by more. The easy access to creating an account without getting traced or the lack of physical attendance makes it easier to bully someone online. Identity theft is also a disadvantage of social media and can be used to ruin someone’s reputation. For example by spreading false stories or bully someone by hiding behind the stolen identity’s name, among with hacking sensitive data and misuse or spreading of personal information.
When one has social media in such a large part of their daily routine, it is easy to become addicted. Addiction is a serious illness which in this case can lead to isolation, lack of exercise or other activities and disturb personal lives.
There are many positive and negative aspects when it comes to social media, just like about everything else. Although social media has many negative aspects it is a helpful tool that can be used safely in everyday life if we just use it right.
